Jewish religion during all history of Jewish people was the only stronghold around which they gathered. Due to synagogues the Jewish people as concept did not assimilate. The word synagogue (gr. "synagoge" - assembly) in the Jewish language “Bait Knesset” already with its name emphasizes not only the status of a praying premise but a place where occur and the most important questions in the life of Jews are discussed.
By our Tradition a Jew begins his/her life in synagogue where he/she is given a name. Boys are given names on the eighth day of their life – after the ritual of trimming, and the girls - on the first Monday, Thursday or Shabbat after they are born and the name receives the blessing above the roll of the Torah. A Jew finishes the stay in this world in synagogue too – where the ceremony of farewell with dead one is held.
In the Yerevan Synagogue many Jews heard the Jewish pray for the first time. The Judaism has recovered the adult generation and became the integral component of the life of all Jews of Armenia. In our synagogue all the Jewish holidays are celebrated, Jews study the Torah and its Laws.
